Aara moved with her family from Zanesville to her hometown of Newark in the early ’60s. She is a graduate of Newark Senior High and the Licking County Joint Vocational School. After working for a time, she decided to follow her passion for theater at Ohio University, graduating Summa Cum Laude with a BA in High School Educational Theatre & Interpersonal Communications.
As an award winner, Aara has served as a director, actor, choreographer, stage manager, musician, set designer, light designer, costumer, technician, and properties mistress for numerous productions over the years in a variety of professional, regional, and community theaters. As well as the Cherokee language instructor for the premiere production of “The Kentucky Cycle” directed by Lucia Columbi. She currently volunteers as the Administrative Assistant for the Ohio Community Theatre Association. Her favorite roles include Aida-Over the River and Through the Woods; M’Lynn-Steel Magnolias; Golde-Fiddler on the Roof; Marion Thayer-Titanic, the musical; and working with youth productions.
Aara enjoys decorating her home in the family holiday traditions, embroidery, honoring her Cherokee heritage as a Women’s Traditional Dancer, and her two remaining rescue cats: Christmas and Sister Elphaba.
